The Bantam Niagara Generals The bantam Niagara Generals came up short defending their Western division championship in a 49-28 loss against the Essex Ravens Saturday in the Varsity Fall Football League.
This ends a great season for the 13 and 14 year old Generals. These athletes were introduced to football though the Niagara Minor Football Association. Most will continue their football careers at the high school and at Bantam & JR Varsity levels with the Niagara Spears. One of these graduating players is league leading running back Eric Neilson, who had 29 carries for 267 yards and 2 TDs Saturday. Eric was part of the inaugural Atom team that started in the COMFL league. He had the following sentiments about his past 6 seasons with the Generals, "... I learned that over the years my coaches had faith in me - so I could be the best player I could be and still have room for improvement cause i love the game so much...."
On Defense the Generals relied on the top tackler Jacob Snider. The defensive leader had 12 tackles in his final game representing Niagara Minor Football. Jacob said this about his experience playing minor football with the Niagara Generals, "Playing Niagara minor football has meant allot to me these past 6 years. I have met plenty of great coaches and played with and against many amazing athletes that I now call friends."

Atom Niagara Generals 26 HamiltonJr. Tiger-Cats 18.  We are going to the playoffs! Our atom Generals fought threw a nail bitter today and squeaked out a win against London for their second win of the season. This game had special meaning to our team as the win pushed them into a playoff spot. The defense was able to keep London to just 18 points with a few key stops that helped secure the win including a stop on the 10 yard line on the last play of the game. The defense was led by Jared Matieson and Austin Macrae with 4 tackles each, Aiden Dubek with 4 sacks, and Carson Gauthier with a key interception that led to a Generals offensive touchdown. The offense seemed to turn things around this week and put up 26 points against a great defense. The offensive line paved the way for an outstanding up the gut rushing attack that was led by Ryan Broome with 192 yards and 3 tds, Justin Savoie with 21 yards and 1td and Jared Mathieson helping with a other 20 to give the Generals 246 yards and 15 first downs. Our next game will be on the road to Cambridge for a west division semi-final. A special thanks goes out to all volunteers and fans who made it a great atmosphere at Kiwanis field this morning, the kids fed off your energy!
